Why do I need to have my signature certified and where can I have it done?

The certified signature is required in order for you to be entered in the commercial register with an authorization to sign. This serves to verify the identity of the signatory.

The following signatures must be certified for entry in the commercial register:

  • Registration signatures
  • Signatures of authorized signatories

The following information is required to certify the signature of an authorized signatory:

  • First name and surname
  • Year of birth
  • Academic title (if desired)
  • Nationality (place of origin for Swiss citizens)
  • Place of residence (political municipality)

Notaries, commercial register offices and, in some cases, city and municipal administrations certify signatures on the basis of a valid identity document. It is advisable to obtain information in advance by telephone and, if necessary, to make an appointment for the notarization.

Certifications made abroad must also be provided with a superlegalization by the responsible Swiss diplomatic or consular representation or with an apostille.
