Around 350 young entrepreneurs submitted their business plans for this fifth SWISS STARTUPS AWARDS. The award ceremony, hosted by Christa Rigozzi and François Egger, took place in front of 400 invited guests. In addition to announcing the prices and distributing the checks worth a total of CHF 200,000, also a high level panel discussion took place with four successful entrepreneurs Carole Pretty (Caran d’Ache), Adriana Ospel-Bodmer (adbodmer), Monika Ribar (SBB) and Ingrid Deltenre place (EBU). The panel discussion was lead by Sacha Wigdorovits and Dana Gablinger.

The winnings of CHF 50’000 per price of the SWISS STARTUPS AWARDS 2014 went to the following great business ideas:

  • For the fourth time the “AXA Innovation Award” was awarded and this year’s lucky winner was COMFY. It is an app that is connected to an LED bulb. The bulb can register real time data in their environment and be used to alert the homeowner against a burglar.
  • For the second time the “Axpo Energy Award” was awarded towards startups involved in energy themes. This year’s winner is Power Blox, an off-grid power supply system for solar power in developing countries. The innovation is the ability to meet a rising demand for energy by modularly adding power Blox together (like Lego blocks) as needed.
  • For the first time the “PostFinance Digital Business Award” was awarded to a startup in the category Digital Business. The award went to Roland Burri with the idea of an Internet platform for resource planning. The platform enables craft to make their not currently required resources such as personnel, material and equipment available to each other.
  • For the “STARTUPS.CH Award” milKit was elected. This prize is awarded by the online business creation platform STARTUPS.CH and its partner Swisscom towards small business sector companies. STARTUPS.CH is the initiator of the SWISS STARTUPS AWARDS and gave out this price for the fifth time. MilKit is a startup that developed an innovative measuring and refilling system for tubeless tires. Tubeless tires can be sealed directly to the rim and therefore have better properties than conventional tires.

Mr. Regli (CEO) are you satisfied with the fifth edition of STARTUPS.CH Award?

Both the number and quality of projects submitted was great and I enjoyed the actual award ceremony and can congratulate a fantastic winner! Never before have we had so many applications for the STARTUPS.CH Award as this year. From the 150 projects that registered from all over Switzerland for the STARTUPS.CH Award, we elected three first-class projects to compete in the final. Among the finalists we then choose milKit. Let me give my congratulations to the winning team once again!
