Report on Company Foundations for November 2022: less incorporations compared to last year
In November 2022, 4166 new companies were founded across Switzerland. Compared to the previous month, the foundation figures increased, while the previous year’s figures still exceed this year’s figures.

Increase in incorporations compared to the previous month
In November 2022, growth was generally observed in all parts of Switzerland:
Northwestern, eastern, and central Switzerland, as well as Ticino and French-speaking Switzerland, all show higher start-up figures than in October 2022. The canton of Bern in particular stands out with an increase of 36.4 % compared to the previous month (365 new companies in total), while the cantons that are also otherwise leaders in terms of incorporations, such as Zug (238 incorporations), Aargau (271 incorporations) and Geneva (373 incorporations), vary between an increase of 9.06 % and 22.05 %.
As usual, the canton of Zurich presents the highest absolute number with 723 incorporations, but shows an increase of only 1.95 % compared to the previous month.
Previous year’s figures higher overall
In November 2021, 4’205 new companies were recorded; making November slightly lower this year with 4’166 new start-ups. Nevertheless, in Northwestern Switzerland and Eastern Switzerland there was an increase in incorporations of respectively 6.12 % and 6.45 %.
In Central Switzerland (-13.51 %), Ticino (-5.50 %) and Zurich (-3.17 %) there was again a slight decrease compared to the previous year, while the figures for French-speaking Switzerland stagnated with a minimal difference of +0.26 %.
Second third of 4th quarter positive
Although the figures are somewhat lower than the previous year, it can still be said that November was a good month in terms of incorporations. November remains, similarly as in the previous years, very strong and did not disappoint this year. Since June 2022, the 4,000 mark has been exceeded again for the first time and growth is expected to continue to rise in December 2022.
