New entries in the Trade Register in October 2015: A good start to the 4th quarter
There was a slight increase in new entries in the Trade Register in October 2015 compared to the previous month of September. This corresponds to an increase of 3.5% compared to the previous month. However, it was not possible to break the previous year’s record.
A good autumn
After the sharp increase in new companies being founded in September, it was possible to record an additional increase of a total of 3,262 new companies being founded in October. This corresponds to an increase of 3.5%. Autumn continues to be the preferred season for starting up a company. However, it was not possible to break the previous year’s record number of new companies being founded. Compared to October 2014, this year 243 less companies were founded; this corresponds to a decrease of 6.93%.
The favourite legal form continues to be the limited liability company with a share of 38.3%. This is closely followed by sole traders with a 35.4% share and, trailing rather far behind, the public limited company with a share of 17.8%.
Growth in all regions
Compared to September, more new companies were founded in all regions. The leader in this respect is the canton of Ticino, with growth of 10.2%, followed by the German-speaking part of Switzerland with an increase of 3.7% and West Switzerland with growth of 1.6%.
Surprisingly, the canton of Lucerne has the highest number of new companies being founded compared to the figure of 43 for the previous month. Lucerne therefore trumps established business cantons such as Zurich (+4.02%), Waadt (+7.02%) and Berne (+4.0%).
Further differences and similarities in the cantons can be found in the following table.
