In December 2021, a total of 4948 companies were founded in Switzerland.\nWhile the number of startups increased significantly by 17.67% compared to the\nprevious month, the number of company formations decreased slightly by 2.39% in\ncomparison with the previous year.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Once again, the number of newly founded companies rose notably towards the end of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Foundation\nrecord just missed<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

A total of\n4948 startups were founded in December 2021. Compared to November 2021, the\nnumber of startups (+743 startups or +17.67%) increased significantly. In\ncontrast, the number of newly founded companies decreased by (-121 or -2.39%)\nstartups compared to December 2020. A look at the individual language regions\nshows a similar picture. In comparison with the previous month, the number of\nstartups rose in German-speaking Switzerland (+556 startups or +19.54%), in\nFrench-speaking Switzerland (+134 startups or +11.56%) as well as in Ticino\n(+53 startups or +26.50%). While Ticino (+47 startups or +22.82%) has also\nmanaged to improve compared to the previous year, German-speaking Switzerland\n(-99 startups or -2.83%) and French-speaking Switzerland (-69 startups or\n-5.07) have recorded slight losses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Massive\nincreases compared to November 2021<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In\ncomparison with the previous month, the number of startups has increased in all\nthe cantons with strong foundation rates Aargau (+46 startups or +19.09%), Berne\n(+98 startups or +29.97%), Geneva (+58 startups or +18.41%), Lucerne (+39\nstartups or 19.02%), St. Gallen (+137 startups or 67.16%), Ticino (+53 startups\nor +26.50%), Vaud (+15 startups or +3.49%), Zug (+75 startups or 25.60%) and\nZurich (+54 startups or +7.14%). The proportionally strongest rise was recorded\nin the canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden (+13 startups or +216.67%). The number\nof newly founded companies decreased only in the cantons of Glarus (-7 startups\nor -30.43%), Obwalden (-2 startups or -7.69%), Solothurn (-5 startups or\n-4.20%) as well as Uri (-7 startups or -43.75%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hardly\nany rises in comparison with December 2020<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Compared to\nthe previous year, the number of startups in the cantons with usually high\nfoundation rates of Aargau (-8 startups or -2.71%), Berne (-27 startups or\n-5.97%), Geneva (-14 startups or -3.62%) and Zurich (-86 startups or -9.60%)\ndeclined. On the other hand, the number of newly founded companies rose in the\ncantons of Lucerne (+39 startups or +19.02%), St.Gallen (+45 startups or\n+15.20%), Ticino (+47 startups or 22.82%), Vaud (+17 startups or +3.97%) as\nwell as Zug (+68 startups or +22.67%). The relatively strongest decrease was\nrecorded in the canton of Uri (-14 startups or -60.87%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
