In\nSeptember 2021, 3631 new companies were founded in Switzerland. The number of\nstartups thus increased by 12.07% compared to the previous month. In comparison\nwith September of the previous year, however, the number of newly founded startups\nfell by 4.14%.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Startup\nfigures on the rise again<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

With a total of 3631 company foundations, the number of newly founded startups rose again slightly last month. Compared to August 2021, the number of new companies increased by 391 startups (+12.07%). The foundation figures of September 2020, however, could not quite be reached with a deficit of 157 startups (-4.14%). In the individual language regions, the situation looks similar. In comparison with the previous month, the number of company foundations in German-speaking Switzerland increased by 160 startups (+7.20%), in French-speaking Switzerland by 206 startups (+23.25) and in Ticino by 25 startups (+19.08%). Compared to the previous year, the number of startups in German-speaking Switzerland fell by 155 (-6.11%) and in Ticino by 19 (-10.86%). The French-speaking part of Switzerland, however, recorded an increase of 17 startups (+1.58%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mixed\nresults both compared to August 2021 …<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

A look at\nthe foundation figures in the individual cantons shows a mixed picture.\nCompared to the previous month, the number of company foundations increased in\nthe foundation-strong cantons of Aargau (+46 startups or +24.08%), Berne (+43 startups\nor +17.41%), Lucerne (+58 startups or +45.31%), St.Gallen (+20 startups or +11.24%),\nTicino (+25 startups or +19.08%) and Vaud (+68 startups or +21.66%). On the\nother hand, Geneva (-1 startup or -0.34%), Zug (-56 startups or -23.14%) and\nZurich (-9 startups or -1.44%) recorded a decrease. Furthermore, the number of\nstartups fell in the cantons of Appenzell Ausserrhoden (-3 startups or\n-14.29%), Basel-Landschaft (-3 startups or -2.97%), Graub\u00fcnden (-8 startups or\n-11.59%) and Schaffhausen (-7 startups or -17.95%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A comparison with the previous year displays a similar image. The cantons of Aargau (+3 startups or +1.28), Lucerne (+33 startups or +21.57) and Vaud (+26 startups +16.88%), all of which have strong startup activity, recorded an increase. On the other hand, the number of startups fell in the cantons of Berne (-31 startups or -9.66%), Geneva (-43 startups or -12.65%), St.Gallen (-2 startups or -1.00%), Ticino (-19 startups or -10.86%), Zug (-12 startups or -6.06%) and Zurich (-98 startups or -13.76%). In addition, the cantons of Appenzell Ausserrhoden (-5 startups or -21.74%), Basel-Landschaft (-18 startups or -15.52%), Basel-Stadt (-8 startups or -7. 77%), Graub\u00fcnden (-5 start-ups or -7.58%), Nidwalden (-5 start-ups or -20.83%), Solothurn (-11 startups or -11.34%) and Thurgau (-20 startups or -16.95%) recorded a decrease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
