The number of startups increased significantly in March 2021. With a\ntotal of 5045 foundations, the past month has once again cracked the 5000 mark.\nCompared to February 2021, the foundation figures have risen by 15.03%.\nCompared to March 2020, the increase even results to 34.89%. <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Foundation\nfigures break the 5000 mark again<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nfoundation figures are currently skyrocketing. After exceeding the 5000 mark\nfor the first time in December 2020, March 2021 managed to crack this threshold\nagain with a total of 5045 foundations. The figures for February 2021 were\nexceeded by 659 startups (+15.03%) and those for March 2020 by as many as 1305\nstartups (+34.89%). The values increased in all language regions as well.\nCompared to the previous month, the increase amounts to 502 startups (+17.12%)\nin German-speaking Switzerland, 109 startups (+8.57%) in French-speaking\nSwitzerland and 48 startups (+26.37%) in Ticino. Compared to March of the\nprevious year, the numbers have risen by 966 startups (+39.14%) in\nGerman-speaking Switzerland, 265 startups (+23.75%) in French-speaking\nSwitzerland and 74 startups (+47.44%) in Ticino.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Decrease\nonly three cantons compared to previous month<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Compared to\nFebruary 2021, the amount of newly founded startups increased in almost all\ncantons. Most of the cantons with strong foundation figures can report rising numbers.\nThe increase amounts to 40 startups (+14.60%) in Aargau, 40 startups (+11.20%)\nin Geneva, 24 startups (+13.33%) in Lucerne, 35 startups (+15.98%) in\nSt.Gallen, 48 startups (+26.37%) in Ticino, 30 startups (+6.80%) in Vaud, 32\nstartups (+11.99%) in Zug and 180 startups (+23.97%) in Zurich. In addition,\nthe cantons of Glarus (+13 startups or +130.00%) and Nidwalden (+31 startups or\n+258.33%) benefited from relatively strong increases. Only in the cantons of\nBerne (-48 startups or -10.26%), Obwalden (-6 startups or -28.57%) and Valais\n(-1 startup or -0.49%) have the foundation figures fallen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The observed\nincrease in the number of startups is even more evident in a comparison with\nthe previous year. Among other things, all of the cantons with strong\nfoundation figures succeeded in improving their values compared to March 2020.\nThe increase amounts to 63 startups (+25.10%) in Aargau, 157 startups (+59.70%)\nin Berne, 82 startups (+26.03%) in Geneva, 42 startups (+25.93%) in Lucerne, 70\nstartups (+38.04%) in St.Gallen, 74 startups (+47.44%) in Ticino, 60 startups\n(+14.60%) in Vaud, 118 startups (+65.19%) in Zug and 241 startups (+34.93%) in\nZurich. Proportionally strongest is the rise in the canton of Nidwalden (+25\nstartups or +138.89%). Compared to the previous year, the number of newly founded\ncompanies has only fallen in the canton of Obwalden. The decrease amounts to 5\nfoundations (-25.00%). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After this noticeable rise in the first quarter, one can be curious about the further course of the foundation figures. Experience shows that the number of newly founded companies usually decreases in the months April to June. However, the startup figures are always good for a surprise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
