March experienced new growth in commercial register entries for the first time this year. The spring high of March 2015 follows a winter low in January and February which both experienced a decline.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Growth in Western Switzerland<\/strong><\/p>\n

March 2015 saw a total of 3,762 new commercial register entries. This corresponds to an increase of 4.6% compared to March 2014. March showed a very strong increase of 14.7% in comparison to the previous month of February. After a decline in start-ups at the beginning of this year, this pleasing increase is very convenient for spring. This allowed Western Switzerland and Ticino in particular to experience growth of 14.2% and 3.5% respectively. In German Switzerland, the growth amounted to only 1%. One may hope that March\u2019s steep increase is not an isolated case and that German Switzerland can achieve sizeable growth rates again.<\/p>\n

Geneva and Vaud are Gaining<\/strong><\/p>\n

The highly-populated cantons of Geneva and Vaud are showing strong growth compared to the previous year. Geneva achieved an increase of 17.4% and Vaud, an increase of 13.3%. Most of the Swiss German cantons are showing moderate growth in comparison to March 2014. The differences were, however, as considerable as ever on a canton-to-canton basis.
