The Zurich Start-up “Bontique” offers high quality and individual fringe benefits, which are special services provided by companies to their employees. For example benefits can be gift vouchers, which are individually tailored and personalized for each employee, such as a diaper abonement for an employee who just got a child. The three founding members of the team – with CEO Roman Ackermann – noticed while researching 15 companies that companies mostly spend their fringe benefits money on food and gasoline. Ackermann asked himself why not try to give something more personal to employees such as a helicopter flight for an employee who’s an avid mountaineer.
Industry boost
The basic idea of the Bontique is that one wants to tighten the ties to one’s employees. Companies are interested in such special fringe benefits and this niche industry has experienced quiet a boost since 2006. According to the Swiss Federal Statistical Office, company’s commitment towards fringe benefits went to be over 90% since 2006. Bontique sees it’s potential mostly with smaller companies that can not afford costly benefits for their employees. This is because Bontique offers a free service and solely finances itself over a commission rate. Services or product providers such as restaurant or hotels pay the commission rate once the voucher of the employee is redeemed.
Currently Bontique is Switzerland’s only provider of this service in the B2B market. To prevent a cheap image of Bontique they do not showcase their selection publicly.
