GEW Switzerland: A Week under the Banner of Entrepreneurship

From 12 to 18 November numerous local events, workshops and networking occasions for prospective entrepreneurs will be held under Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) Switzerland. Initiated by Swissparks.ch, GEW will host incubators, innovation and technology parks, impact hubs, founder centres and other start-up organisations nationwide.

For one week every November the Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) initiative inspires and accompanies people on their way to self-employment. As part of it, for one week organisations and companies all over the world participate in various activities, numerous events and workshops. At the same time, the would-be entrepreneurs get access to a platform for exchange and networking with sponsors, intermediaries and investors.

GEW aims at helping to launch and expand companies, create jobs and thus promote innovation and growth. What is also important during this week is to draw the attention of the public to how important entrepreneurship and start-ups are for the economy and prosperity.

Thirty-Four Events with More Than 2500 Participants in Switzerland

Global Entrepreneurship Week was founded in 2007, by representatives coming from 37 countries. In 2017 GEW took place in already 167 countries, attracting more than ten million visitors.

GEW Switzerland was launched in Bern in 2011, and since then has been rapidly expanding not only in German, but also in French and Italian speaking Switzerland. In 2017 there were more than 2500 visitors attending 34 events across nine cantons.

This year’s edition, in turn, is organised by Swissparks.ch, with STARTUPS.CH as a supporting partner. ‘According to Global Entrepreneurship Monitor 2017, Switzerland should increase its entrepreneurial awareness. This is exactly what Global Entrepreneurship Week, which we have been actively committed to since 2012, is about,’ explains René Hausammann, Chairman of Swissparks.ch, an association of Swiss technology parks and business incubators. The over thirty Swiss GEW organisers include, but are not limited to, incubators, innovation and technology parks, impact hubs and founder centres. The variety of activities ranges from new founders breakfast to one-week training programmes to start-up weekends.
