“eSMART” networks your house with your smart phone
Start-up eSMART has developed an innovative module which allows you to control your own house or apartment at the click of a button. This start-up company from French-speaking Switzerland has just won the “Prix Strategis 2015”.
Start-up eSMART has won this year’s “Prix Strategis HEC-2015” award. Participants were assessed on the basis of various criteria, but eSMART prevailed thanks to its innovation, product realisation and expansion potential. However, the deciding factor for the jury was eSMART’s service concept.
eSMART was founded in 2011 by Laurent Fabre and Fabrizio Lo Conte after they won the STARTUPS.CH AWARD in 2011 for French-speaking Switzerland, worth CHF 50,000 (see blog post). Back then, STARTUPS.CH presented one award per region in German-speaking Switzerland, French-speaking Switzerland and Ticino.
In collaboration with EPFL Lausanne, the founders developed modules that are mounted directly behind wall sockets or light switches. The modules use the existing power grid and therefore do not require additional wiring or even the opening up of house walls. The modules combine energy consumption, temperature control and domestic comfort in a single system. The entire house can be controlled via a touch screen in the living room, a tablet or even a smart phone.
After celebrating its first successes in the region, from this year eSMART is now also available in German-speaking Switzerland. In the coming years, the founders with eSMART hope to expand globally. With this in mind, they plan to target major cities such as London and Dubai, where there are many households.
